“ONA project room” underlines the presence of female artists in Japan and gives them a platform to speak up!
“ONA project room” is an independent initiative created in Tokyo, focusing on promoting and supporting emerging artists that identify as female through series of pop-up exhibitions and events. "ONA" means "HER" in Polish.
Born out of a desire to give a voice to female artists, still underrepresented in the arts, the project offers them an opportunity to create meaningful dialogues with the audience while engaging with the local art scene.
"ONA project room" is about freedom of expression, representation, and time.
Any artists selected will be given time to develop their exhibition, freedom to create a project in dialogue with our team, and a space to showcase their pieces.
The project is temporarily hosted in "UNTITLED space" – a newly-created artist-run venue located in Sumida-ku, Tokyo.
"ONA project room" is also an online platform, with the objective of fostering creativity online, and helping creators to reach a broader audience through digital exhibitions and events.
The project was founded by Ewelina Skowronska (Japan based, Polish artist) and Sophie Lekens (project manager in the arts). Today is run by Ewelina Skowronska, and Rio Usui (Japanese artist and curator currently based in Germany).

ONA project room (オナ・プロジェクト・ルーム) は、女性としてのアイデンティティを持つアーティストによる期間限定の展示やイベントを推進する為に、東京で生まれた独自のプロジェクトです。尚、”ONA”とは、ポーランド語で”彼女の”という意味です。
ONA project roomは、アート業界においても未だ取り上げられる事の少ない女性アーティストに対し、表現する手段を与えたいという願いから生まれ、ローカルアートシーンとの繋がりを通して、アーティストとオーディエンスが有意義な対話をする為の機会を提供します。
選ばれたアーティストには、展示する場所と時間を設ける事で、各々の作品を自由に制作する機会を提供いたします。
展示は、UNTITLED space (無題の空間)という東京都墨田区のスペースにて行います。イベントはオンラインでも開催されます。
このプロジェクトは、Ewelina Skowronska（ビジュアルアーティスト、ポーランド出身日本在住）とSophie Lekens（アート分野のプロジェクトマネージャー）によって立ち上げられました。 現在、ONA project roomの代表であるEwelina Skowwronskaと碓井里緒（アーティスト、キュレーター、日本出身ドイツ在住）が企画・運営しています。
