We are pleased to announce first exhibition opening ONA project room featuring Polish born, Tokyo based photographer Anna Bedynska.
Once a year, hanabi, a huge fireworks show, is organized on the Tama River. This show attracts nearly half a million people. It gets so crowded that festival guidelines stipulate that only a maximum of 90cm by 90cm is allowed on the lawn for one person!
The “90x90” photography series was made during the morning preparations for the show, yet this is not a story about fireworks, it is a story about Japanese mentality, coexistence in a group, respect to others - 心 遣 い kokorozukai. This is a cultural recognition of privacy in a public space.
年に一度、多摩川で大規模な花火大会が開催されます。このお祭りは50万人近くの人々を魅了しています。
とても混雑をするので、お祭りのガイドラインでは1人当たり最大90cmｘ90cmの芝生の使用が規定されています。
この写真シリーズは、花火大会の朝の準備中に撮影されました。これは花火の話ではなく、日本人の考え方、グループでの共存、他人への敬意を含む“心遣い”についての話です。
これは公共スペースにおける個々を大事に思う文化的な価値観だと感じます。
About the artist:
Anna Bedynska Polish documentary photographer and artist. Based in Tokyo. Bedynska has a long experience as a documentary photographer doing social projects as well as working for the biggest Polish National Newspaper “Gazeta Wyborcza” and as a lecturer on Press Photography at the Warsaw University, Poland.
In her work as an artist she focuses her attention on social changes in contemporary society. Her projects have won many awards, such as the World Press Photo Award among the others.

彼女は、ソーシャルプロジェクトを行うドキュメンタリー写真家として活動する傍ら、ポーランド最大の全国紙「Gazeta Wyborcza」での勤務やポーランドのワルシャワ大学でプレス写真の講師として長い経験を持っています。
彼女の作品では、現代社会における社会的変化に注目しています。彼女のプロジェクトは多くの国際的なコンテストでの受賞や世界報道写真に取り上げられました。東京を拠点に活動しています。
